Jogjakarta is another province within central Java island. It is a special province in Indonesia for the historical background. As the central of Javanese culture, Jogjakarta keeps its value by maintain the cultural events. Sultan's palace is the Javanese cultural study center. Although it is a separate administrative entity, Yogyakarta is historically and culturally part of the Central Java. It is the only region in Indonesia that is still governed by a pre-colonial monarchy, the Sultan of Yogyakarta, who serves as the hereditary governor of the region. The recent Sultan is Sultan Hamengkubuwono X.

In Javanese it is pronounced [joɡjaˈkartɔ], and named after the city of Ayodhya in Javanese-Hindu mythology. The Dutch name of the Special Region is Djokjakarta.
